... and explore this beautiful Seto Inland Sea region!
Uno Slope House offers more than just proximity to Naoshima's internationally renowned modern art museums and the art house project (Chichu Museum, Benesse House Art Museum, Lee Ufan museum, all designed by Tadao Ando). Here you also have easy access to beautiful islands in the Seto Inland Sea which the American writer Donald Richie described as "a place modernity passed by" in his book "The Inland Sea."
After the success of the 1st triennial Setouchi International Art festival in the summer of 2010, Teshima became another art-island of must-visit. The festival has kept Teshima Art Museum, Boltanski's Heartbeat Archive, Shima-Kitchen, and more art projects on the island. Keep it mind that Uno port has direct access to Teshima island and Shodo-shima island, two of the seven islands, besides the shortest ferry ride to Naoshima island.
The other four islands, Inujima, Ogijima, Megijima, and Oshima were also accessible from Uno via Naoshima or Takamatsu. These are the artists who would put their works on those islands.
Every Summer...
There will be Uno Port Art Films, an outdoor international film screening series at Uno Port. Check out the website at http://UnoPortArtFilms.Org

Documentaries, fiction, experimentals,..and many "arty" international films. All English and Japanese subtitles. An outdoor "trailer" theater by the ocean at night. |

The area called "Kojima," where Uno Slope House is located, used to be an island. It was said that Kojima was the 9th-born island in the birth of Japan, according to KOJI-KI - Japan's oldest ancient chronicle edited in the eighth century. Several Buddhist temples close to Uno Slope House are part of the Kojima 88 Pilgrimage route where you see the pilgrims in white lobes passing through. |
